Security officials have launched a counter-terrorism operation in at least four districts and two cities of Russia's restive North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, a news report said, following recent clashes between militants and government troops.
The counter-terror regime was put in place Monday morning in the cities of Kizilyurt, Khasavyurt and the Novolaksk, Kazbekovsky, Kizilyurt and Khasavyurt districts, Interfax news agency reported, citing a spokesperson for the security operation's headquarters.
The regime followed a similar counter-terror measure introduced Sunday in Dagestan's Buinaksk district, according to RIA Novosti news agency.
