Two women have been killed after being buried under a massive amount of root vegetables after a truck loaded with potatoes crashed into their car.

The accident took place in the Novosibirsk region on Wednesday afternoon and resulted in both cars overturning into a ditch, according to a statement on regional traffic police website.

Rescue workers were dispatched, but both women were pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was also injured in the collision and taken to hospital for treatment.

Traffic police said they were looking into the incident and would try to establish the reasons behind the crash.
