This summer sees a return of "Open Street," a city-backed event that sees theaters put on outdoor shows for free in central Moscow.
Teatr.doc, dance cooperative "Isadorino Gore" and Butch Theater are among those that will take to the streets this summer in events that take place on the city's most famous squares and pedestrian streets such as Patriarch Ponds and Stoleshnikov Pereulok.
If you walked down the pedestrianized street Kamergersky Pereulok last year, you might have come across a dozen men and woman dressed as migrant workers doing a feverish dance just off Tverskaya Ulitsa.
This Saturday will see theaters strut their stuff on Patriarch Ponds between 5 and 10 p.m. Tverskaya Ploshchad is the venue on Aug. 2.
The event is part of a "Luchshy Gorod Zemli," or "Best City in the World," a city government initiative that is hopefully an attempt to make Moscow a better place rather than stating a somewhat arguable fact.
Apart from the theater shows, the city is also putting on a number of events such as a free dance lessons near the TsUM mall on July 24 and 31 and a Brazilian samba show at the Zil cultural center on the same days.
