Woman Suspected of Killing Housemate With TV Remote

A woman in the Perm region has been detained on suspicion of killing a man with a television remote.

A murder case has been opened against the 59-year-old woman, who is thought to have asphyxiated the 46-year-old man she lived with, the regional Investigative Committee said Monday in a statement.

According to preliminary investigations in the region's Nytvensky district, the man and the woman started fighting on Thursday after drinking spirits. During the argument the woman is suspected of forcing the television remote into the mouth of the man, causing him to suffocate.

Investigators said that attempts to establish all the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.

The woman faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
