Veteran human rights activist Lyudmila Alexeyeva has been questioned by investigators in connection with the death of Hermitage Capital lawyer Sergei Magnitsky, apparently because she had complained that the case was not properly investigated.
Investigators came to her home in early November, explaining that the questioning was linked to two complaints she had sent to the Investigative Committee, Alexeyeva told Interfax on Saturday.
She voiced doubts that this would move the case forward. "All my earlier questions to investigators remain unanswered. Instead, they question me. … This is not a result," she said.
Magnitsky died in a Moscow pretrial prison in November 2009 after being detained by the same police officials he had accused of corruption.
His supporters, which include the Moscow Helsinki group headed by Alexeyeva, say he was intentionally denied medical help in prison.
